Construction Foreman

Position Summary

A construction foreman is the on-site leader responsible for supervising crews and ensuring that daily work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans. The foreman both leads crews and works alongside them, performing hands-on installation, repair, and replacement of tanks, piping, dispensers, and other fuel-system equipment.

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday (45-55 hours per week). Work on Saturdays and Sundays is rare, but possible.
  • The standard starting time is 6:00 am, but it will vary at times. The end time is at job completion.
  • Foremen are dispatched from the Hillsboro office.
  • Overnight stays are required most of the time.

Roles & Responsibilities

Field Crew Leadership

  • Direct daily activities of construction crews.
  • Assign tasks based on qualifications and certifications.
  • Ensure crews follow approved work plans and sequencing.
  • Conduct daily pre-task planning and tailgate safety meetings.
  • Train crew members on proper installation methods and job-site expectations.

Pre-construction Planning

  • Review plans, specifications, and permits.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings with project managers
  • Confirm utility locates and site access.
  • Verify that correct materials and quantities are on-site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors [excavation, concrete, electrical, environmental].
  • Coordinate delivery of tanks, piping, and equipment.
  • Plan shutdowns and minimize site downtime.

Construction Execution

  • Plan daily and weekly work to meet project schedules.
  • Oversee installation, repair, and replacement of:
    • Underground or aboveground storage tanks
    • Containment sumps, product and vent piping
    • Dispensers and hanging hardware
    • Shear valves, spill buckets, and overfill protection
    • Tank monitor systems, probes, and leak detection
  • Verify proper testing:
    • Line and tank tightness testing
    • Pressure/vacuum decay testing
    • Hydrostatic testing
  • Monitor labor efficiency and crew productivity.
  • Adjust manpower and sequencing as conditions change.
  • Monitor subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications, scope of work, and schedule.
  • Communicate schedule impacts to the project manager.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Enforce safety and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee site security, traffic control, excavation and trench safety, confined space procedures, lockout/tagout, and fuel vapor and ignition source control.
  • Prevent spills/releases; lead immediate response if one occurs.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of contaminated soil and waste.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and secure jobsites.
  • Stop work for safety, quality, or environmental concerns.

Quality Control & Inspections

  • Inspect work for compliance with manufacturer specs and codes.
  • Ensure final installation is inspection-ready. Coordinate with inspectors.
  • Address punch-list items immediately.
  • Ensure documentation is complete for closeout packages.

Customer & Site Coordination

  • Serve as the on-site company representative.
  • Coordinate work with store owners, GCs, and inspectors.
  • Manage shutdowns, site access, and safety zones.
  • Maintain professional communication with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of petroleum equipment experience [preferred].
  • Strong knowledge of fuel systems and codes [preferred].
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods and sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory standards and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as skid steer, mini excavator, and forklift.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and remain insurable.

Conditions

  • Drive daily. For extensive periods occasionally.
  • Stand on concrete or pavement regularly. For extensive periods occasionally.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs regularly. Up to and over 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Crouch, kneel, twist, bend, reach, and walk regularly.
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in designated operations.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions regularly.
  • Work in a retail environment with heavy traffic flow regularly.
  • Work in a commercial construction environment occasionally.
