Compliance Technician

 

Position Summary

Compliance technicians perform inspections and testing of fuel storage tanks and dispensing systems at retail gas stations and commercial fueling facilities. System equipment includes underground and above-ground tanks, point-of-sale systems, card systems, dispensers, tank monitors, submersible pumps, piping, and other petroleum-related equipment.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday (40-50 hours per week). Working on Saturdays and Sundays is very rare, but possible.
  • The standard starting time is 8:00 am, but it will vary at times. The end time is at job completion.
  • Technicians are dispatched from their homes.
  • Overnight stays are required at times. Overnight stays are common and expected for calibration projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly and annual inspections of tank and dispensing systems.
  • Perform testing of corrosion protection systems, tank monitor functionality, line leak functionality, and line tightness.
  • Perform hydrostatic testing of containment (tank and dispenser sumps) and spill prevention equipment (spill buckets).
  • Perform accurate calibration of fuel dispensing meters to ensure the meters pass inspection by local Weights and Measures officials.
  • Perform general maintenance service calls such as changing filters, pumping water from tanks and sumps, changing hoses/nozzles, etc.
  • Complete and submit work orders, warranty forms, commissioning forms, and other required paperwork on time.
  • Obtain and maintain industry and manufacturer certifications.
  • Work safely in accordance with standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess effective communication skills with supervisor, co-workers, customers, and public.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop viable solutions.
  • Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry regulatory standards and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Capacity to work independently and seek out assistance as needed.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using standard and customized software applications to complete and submit work orders, warranty, and commissioning documentation.

Physical Requirements & Conditions

  • Drive daily. For extensive periods occasionally.
  • Stand on concrete or pavement regularly. For extensive periods occasionally.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs regularly. Up to and over 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Crouch, kneel, twist, bend, reach, and walk regularly.
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in designated operations.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions regularly.
  • Enter confined spaces and work from heights or ladders occasionally.
  • Work in a retail environment with heavy traffic flow regularly.
  • Work in a commercial construction environment occasionally.
